Alfred 28th May 2020

My fondest memories of David. Our side of the Blenkarn Family always called him David and not Dave. David helped his Uncle Alfred in the bakery of Blenkarns Limited in Lewisham on a Saturday while he was at school. David enjoyed summer school holidays at West Bungalow in Seaford. David visited us in Lewisham in his teens & he was always smartly dressed in the latest fashion, such as pointed shoes. My Mum made the comment to us “ David’s pointed shoes are not good for your feet.” My brother Colin & myself were not allowed pointed shoes. I helped my Dad with the wedding reception of Diane & David at the new Saint Laurence’s Church Hall in Catford. I remember it well because my brother Colin & myself sang in the choir at Saint Mary’s Church in Lewisham & on the same day of Diane & David’s wedding there were a lot of weddings going on at Saint Mary’s Church in Lewisham as well. My brother Colin and myself missed out in getting extra pocket money that week as we were paid one shilling & sixpence (7.5p) for each wedding if you were a junior (Colin) & three shillings (15p) for each wedding if you were a senior (myself). We all enjoyed Diane & David’s wedding. David, Diane, Laura & Dawn always visited Uncle Alfred and Auntie Joyce in Seaford. David, my brother Colin and my Dad would have a chat around the kitchen table discussing the history of the Blenkarn family tree. My Mum and Diane would chat in the lounge talking about the recent family events. Uncle Alfred & Auntie Joyce would treat David & Diane to fish & chips at the Trawlers in Seaford. David made sure that his daughters Laura & Dawn had the special Blenkarn's cake stand & knife for their weddings. David rang me when my brother Colin and my sister Elizabeth passed away and he told he had lit a candle for them both. I will do the same for David. David was looking forward to our family event this year, but I am afraid it got cancelled, due to the coronavirus. David was also looking forward to our halfway meeting between Seaford & Chatham for lunch in June or July, but this had to be cancelled, due to the coronavirus. David would have loved watching an ITV programme this week called Inside the Crown: Secrets of the Royals which had our Blenkarns Limited shop in Lewisham. We will all miss him very much, and he will always be remembered in our hearts. Alfred, Robin, Susan, David, Jason, Peter, Kirsty, Carla & Ava X .
